Squirrels, Nuts and Faith
"... if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'move from here' and it will move...." Matthew 17:20
At our home in Virginia, squirrels run and jump from tree to tree all year long, scurrying around to find that precious nut. God has definitely given them a great work ethic, strength, and determination. The squirrel, with the ability to persevere and stay motivated toward the goal, always gets the nut.
So many times we struggle to stay motivated and persevere through the day-to-day tasks that are before us. Day in and day out, we do the laundry, cook, clean, change diapers, provide the taxi service for the children, pay bills, organize a home, grocery shop, clip coupons, work in the office, feed the family pet, take care of aging parents, and so much more. Where can we find motivation to continue persevering toward the end goal and dream God has given us? It’s found in our faith. Scripture speaks of Moses, “By faith he left Egypt… he persevered… because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover…” (Hebrews 11:26-28). Moses was a man of perseverance but, most of all, a man of faith.
We must have faith if we want to persevere. Faith that God is who He says He is—a rewarder to those who diligently seek after His will for their lives. Let me encourage you to keep on keeping on… for His glory and that eternal crown that you will be able to lay at the Savior’s precious feet while hearing him say, “Well Done!”
