Dealing with Darkness
The blizzard that had canceled school continued to rage Friday night. Gavin and his family were watching a dvd. Suddenly everything went black. “What happened?” Bryce asked. Gavin could hear his brother but not see him. “The storm must’ve knocked down a power line,” their dad said. Gavin got up off the couch. “I’ll get the flashlight!” Sticking his hands out, he started making his way toward the kitchen.
“Do you know where it is?” his mom asked.
Fumbling in the dark, Gavin said, “Yeah. Underneath the sink.” He bumped into the dinner table. Then he turned and took a few steps, feeling around for the countertop. When he found it, he followed it around to the sink. Opening the cabinet, he found the flashlight. He pulled it out and switched it on. Instantly the light pierced the darkness, and he could see.
Good always defeats evil, the way light overcomes darkness. Sadly, the world can seem pretty dark at times. Especially when the news is reporting something evil that happened. Evil events can make you feel afraid or depressed. But remember, Jesus is the Light of the World. He defeats all darkness! Let his light shine through you. Do good things to help overcome evil in your part of the world.
Bible Verse: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. – Romans 12:21
Words to Treasure: [Jesus said,] “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
